Positive Behavior Intervention Support
Positive Behavior Intervention Support or PBiS is a program designed to teach respect, responsibility, and safety at school. PBiS is a research-based program which can result in increased instructional time, increased positive behaviors, and a decrease in disruptive behaviors. At Farrand Elementary we hope to encourage students to continuously make good behavioral choices. PBiS provides teachers, staff, students, and parents with information about what behaviors are expected in every location of the school in order to help prevent behavioral problems and ensure a safe learning environment.
All students and staff are taught the school-wide behavior expectations. Students will receive frequent reviews of the expectations and will be positively acknowledged for displaying the behaviors as outlined in the attached Farrand Expectations Matrix.
Parents can help by reading and discussing the behavior expectations matrix with their child and requiring their child to treat others respectfully. A PBiS school provides a consistent, predictable, and safe environment for all students.
Farrand Handbook
More detailed information about procedures is available in the Farrand Handbook.
School Hour
- K- 5 8:55 am - 4:01 pm Full day / Half day 8:55 am - 12:10pm
Beginning of the day/taking your student out early
Students enter the building at 8:50 when the bell rings and should be in the classroom at 8:55. Students who walk to school should not arrive before 8:40 as there is no adult supervision on school grounds until that time. Students will only be released from school to a parent or adult who is listed on the student's emergency card. Parent or Adult MUST show I.D. to enter building.
Children are released from the office only. Please do not go directly to your child's classroom. Student are only released to persons listed on the emergency card. Please bring your Picture I.D. when you come to sign out a student. Thank you!
Visitors/Volunteers:
To ensure the security of our students, all visitors and volunteers need to sign in at the office and receive a badge to wear for identification purposes.
Reporting Absences:
To make sure that all children arrive safely at school, please report the absence or tardiness of your child. Call 582-6900 and press two which will connect you to the Farrand Attendance Hotline. Office staff will call to check on unconfirmed absences.
Illness:
Any child with a fever of 100.4 degrees or signs of a contagious disease will be sent home from school. It is the parent's responsibility to provide transportation and care for the child. Please keep emergency numbers for your child up to date along with numbers of other people who can care for your child if you are not available. Additional guidelines of when to send children back to school after illness and concerning medications at school are available in the Farrand Handbook.
Dropping off and Picking up Children:
Due to limited parking and in the interest of the safety of children, we strongly encourage children who do not ride the bus to walk to school. When it is necessary for parents to pick up children, please use the circular drive on the right side of the building. The loop in the front must be kept clear at all times for safe loading and unloading of students who take the bus. Students crossing Greenbriar Lane or Schoolcraft should cross with the crossing guard. When students arrive at school they should report to their class line-up area, either on the east side or in the back on the blacktop.
Transportation:
Please save information in the district newsletter, Newsline, or follow the link for details regarding bus routes, stops, and pick-up times. If you have any questions, contact the school or Transportation at 416-3000.
